SUNY Canton Dean Receives College Service Award
The SUNY Canton College Council presented Linda D. Pellett, Dean of Science, Health, and Public Service with the 2009 Excellence in College Service Award.
“Linda works tirelessly for the benefit of our students and the College,” said SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy. “She has played an integral role in the College’s tremendous recent progress, including the expansion of bachelor’s degree programs and online courses.”
The Excellence in College Service Award is given annually to a SUNY Canton non-teaching academic employee. Pellett is responsible for the organization, direction, and supervision of the School of Science, Health, Professional Studies and Public Service. She is also current chair of the Assessment Committee.
“Linda is a dean that strives to serve her faculty and students, a dean who continuously steps up to fulfill the need of the campus administrators,” said the Dean of Academic Services and Retention Molly A. Mott. “Linda is unwavering in her commitment and always does best job possible, sacrificing much of her personal time to fulfill her many responsibilities.”
According to her nominations for this award, Pellett has continually demonstrates her vast knowledge of the College’s programs at the school. She uses those skills to accurately help the College’s programs quantifiably measure its goals and objectives to help offer the best career-driven education possible. The school she oversees has most recently added a two- and four-year Dental Hygiene program and a four-year Nursing program.
“She is very conscientious to make sure that student interests are paramount,” said School of Science, Health, and Public Service Secretary Donalee Eggleston.
Pellett started her career at SUNY Canton in 1977 as an Instructor in the Medical Laboratory Program. She received her bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology, a Master’s in Education from St. Lawrence University, and another master’s degree in Instructional Technology and Media Management from SUNY Potsdam.
SUNY Canton offers a wide variety of career-driven bachelor’s, associate, and certificate programs, as well as three master’s degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica. Most of SUNY Canton’s new four-year programs are designed so students can take them on-campus, online, or both. SUNY Canton OnLine features more than 100 courses online each semester. The College’s athletic teams belong to the NAIA’s Sunrise Conference, enabling students to compete in their respective sports for four years.
