Clothing Fair Project Receives Award from AAUW
SUNY Canton has received an award from the St. Lawrence County branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) for the 2009 Professional Clothing Fair.
The AAUW announced that the college had won a second place award in the Community program division at recent statewide Convention in Bolton Landing.
The SUNY Canton office of Human Resources, the Office of Career Services, and the St. Lawrence County One-Stop career center collaborate to host an annual clothing drive and fair for individuals who are preparing to join or rejoin the workforce. More than 250 people benefitted from the fair, according to Betty Connolly, SUNY Canton Director of Human Resources and AAUW member.
“We have individuals donate gently used clothing and distribute it to jobseekers from the community,” she said. “It’s been a well-received event. This year, our services were especially appreciated due to the sluggish economy.”
SUNY Canton offers a wide variety of career-driven bachelor’s, associate, and certificate programs, as well as three master’s degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica. Most of SUNY Canton’s new four-year programs are designed so students can take them on-campus, online, or both. SUNY Canton OnLine features more than 100 courses online each semester. The College’s athletic teams belong to the NAIA’s Sunrise Conference, enabling students to compete in their respective sports for four years.
