SUNY Canton Secretary Recognized for Customer Service and Positive Attitude
Renee Campbell, an administrative assistant in the School of Business and Liberal Arts, was selected as the recipient of the SUNY Canton College Council’s 2013 Employee Recognition Award.
“I am in awe of the work, time and dedication put forth by Renee,” said Interim School of Business and Liberal Arts Dean Maureen P. Maiocco. “She is collegial, empathetic and friendly. Students often tell me how helpful she is when assisting with scheduling, explaining policies or just listening.”
Maiocco recalled when Renee set aside her day-to-day work to assist a non-traditional student in need of a schedule. The student was very nervous about returning to college. “We were short staffed that day,” Maiocco recalled. “Despite how absolutely busy Renee was, she took time to put this student at ease.”
She is widely known on campus for her compassion and concern for students, faculty and staff members. One of her co-employees described her as a unique and classy person who brings out the best in people.
“Renee is a breath of fresh air in our office,” said Kathy A. Limoges, a secretary who works alongside Campbell. “She is a great source of wisdom for implementing change and constantly improving our service to the students and faculty in our school.”
Campbell started at SUNY Canton in 2002 as an agency service representative in the Student Service Center. In 2005, she was hired in the School of Business and Liberal Arts. She was promoted to secretary 1 in 2008. She won the Women of the Year Award from the student-run Women’s Concerns Club in 2004.
Campbell is also a member of the Affirmative Action Committee at the College. She helps ensure that the College maintains its record of hiring a diverse and gender-balanced workforce.
“She has a commendable devotion to duty and her friendly attitude makes working at SUNY Canton more enjoyable,” said Charles R. Fenner, Ph.D., a professor teaching Business Management, who works closely with Campbell. “I can’t think of a more deserving person for this award.”
Renee is married to Tim Campbell. She has one son, Andrew; two stepdaughters, Kristen and Katelyn; and one stepson, Matthew.
