Roody Roo Enters in SUNY’s Mascot Madness Competition
SUNY Canton’s Mascot, Roody Roo, will be competing in the fifth annual SUNY-Wide Mascot Madness tournament.
Approximately 40 mascots from SUNY Colleges across the state enter in the running. The competition is determined by online voting through the SUNY Big Ideas Blog. The most popular characters advance through a NCAA March Madness inspired bracket.
Voting is set to kick off at noon Tuesday, March 14. Roody is matched against Stinger the Hornet from SUNY Broome Community College in the first round.
Round 1: March 14 (noon) – March 16 (4 p.m.)
Round 2: March 20 (noon) – March 22 (4 p.m.)
Round 3: March 24 (noon) – March 27 (4 p.m.)
Round 4: March 29 (noon) – March 31 (4 p.m.)
Round 5: April 3 (noon) – April 5 (4 p.m.)
Last year, the kangaroo from Canton made it to the final four but was taken out by Wolfie Seawolf from Stony Brook University.
SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran enthusiastically supports this friendly competition, and even appeared in a new college video documenting Roody’s efforts to prepare for Mascot Madness. The college’s Videographer, Morgan D. Elliott, created a training montage set to the theme of the original Rocky movie.
“Mascot Madness helps promote SUNY Canton spirit,” noted Szafran. “I may be biased, but I think we’ve got a strong shot at the title this year.”
Roody has appeared in eight of the college’s videos which are used for both on and off campus promotion.
