SUNY Canton Welcomes Back Renowned Poet for Living Writers Series
A poet who writes about the complexities of fatherhood while witnessing social injustice and inequities of race in America will return to SUNY Canton this month for the college’s Living Writers Series.
Iain Haley Pollock will speak at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21 in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center’s Kingston Theater. The event is free and open to the public.
He will read excerpts from his latest poetry collection, “Ghost, Like a Place,” which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award. Pollock previously visited the college in 2013 to discuss his Cave Canem Poetry Prize-winning book, “Spit Back a Boy.”
Pollock’s poems have appeared in The New York Times Magazine and American Poetry Review. He is the poetry editor at Solstice Literary Magazine, teaches English at the Rye Country Day School and is a faculty member at Pine Manor College.
The spring installment of the Living Writers Series wraps up next month with final guest Chaya Bhuvanseswar, who will discuss her award-winning short story collection, “White Dancing Elephants,” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 24.
Visit the Living Writers Series webpage for more information on the speakers or the series.
