Monday, November 9th, 2015

A Subaru Distributers Corp. executive will be discussing career paths after college and a Native American clan mother will help students learn about cultural identity during the second week of November at SUNY Canton.

Barry A. Wells, executive vice president of parts, service and logistics for Subaru Distributors Corp., will be speaking to students about their career path at 2 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 11) in Richard W. Miller Campus Center room 218. Wells graduated from SUNY Canton with an associate degree in 1975 and returned for his Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies in 2010. He went on to receive a doctorate from the New York Law School while continuing his career with Subaru. Wells has also been a Subaru Dealer and an Ogdensburg City Police officer.

Wells & Herne

Tewakierahkwa Louise McDonald Herne, a condoled Bear Clan mother for the Mohawk Nation Council, will be speaking at 2 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 12) in Richard W. Miller Campus Center room 212. Herne will be presenting on Haudenosaunee (otherwise known as Iroquois) women and their influence on early feminism. As a founding member of a Mohawk council of women, she works to continue the historical and traditional strength of Native Americans through education and empowerment. She has worked with hundreds of families and helped them embrace Haudenosaunee culture through instruction and ceremony.

The two speakers are the latest in the semester’s lineup of student-focused presentations on campus, which have included local business leaders from Corning Inc. and SeaComm Federal Credit Union, as well as dignitaries representing North Korea and educators from South Africa.

Both events are free and open to the public.
