Free Car Winterization Seminar at SUNY Canton

Friday, November 21st, 2008

The SUNY Canton Automotive Technology department will be offering a free car winterization seminar from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, in the Automotive Laboratory in Nevaldine Technology Center South Room 123.

“We will be covering some obvious and some not-so-obvious ways to get vehicles ready for the brutal North Country winter,” said Brandon Baldwin, Director of the Automotive Technology program. “There are certain items that are essential for the upcoming months, and there are also some suggestions that will help make the tough weather easier to handle.”

Automotive students will be on hand to check coolant freeze points, provide battery tests, and help prepare door seals and locks. “We will provide a winterization checklist that can be used yearly,” Baldwin said.

This event is free and open to the public, but preregistration is required. Please email or call 386-3866 to register.

“Community outreach is an important part of our curricula here at SUNY Canton,” noted Canino School of Engineering Technology Dean David Wells. “This is a helpful and timely program as we get ready for the cold and snow.”

Other recent community outreach initiatives at the college include a volunteer income tax preparation service and the college’s outreach initiatives for women in engineering and construction.

SUNY Canton offers a wide variety of career-driven bachelor’s, associate, and certificate programs, as well as three master’s degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica. Most of SUNY Canton’s new four-year programs are designed so students can take them on-campus, online, or both. SUNY Canton OnLine features more than 100 courses online each semester. The college’s athletic teams belong to the NAIA’s Sunrise Conference, enabling students to compete in their respective sports for four years.
