Dine Kennedy Recipient of Prestigious North Country Award

Dine Kennedy

Dine Kennedy, wife of SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy, is the recipient of St. Lawrence University’s North Country Citation this year.

An exemplary community volunteer, Mrs. Kennedy is currently co-chair of the Traditional Arts of Upstate New York (TAUNY) Evergreen Campaign, is a Board member for Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, and represents the St. Lawrence Valley Educational Television Council, Inc. (WPBS) on the national Leadership Council for advancing public service media in America.

She served ten years on the Benton Board of the Canton Free Library, including serving as Treasurer and President; served on the North Country Public Radio Community Advisory Board; served eleven years as a Board member, vice chair, and chair of WPBS; and served eight years on the Board of Trustees for Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

“The people who welcomed us to the North Country were the impetus for me getting so involved in the community,” Mrs. Kennedy said.  “Many of the people we’ve met here have set great examples by really giving of themselves, and they’ve had a real impact on my life.”

St. Lawrence University annually awards the North Country Citation to an individual or group from the region who, through professional and volunteer endeavors, has improved the quality of life in the North Country and fostered a sense of community in the region. Recipients must live in one of the six counties of Northern New York (St. Lawrence, Lewis, Jefferson, Essex, Warren and Franklin).

The citation will be presented to Mrs. Kennedy by the University’s Board of Trustees at St. Lawrence’s Commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 16.
