The SUNY Canton Dental Hygiene Clinic recently saw its 10,000th patient.
“The SUNY Canton students enrolled in dental hygiene provide preventive care to volunteers from the community,” noted Professor Pamela P. Quinn, who oversees the clinic. “Our 10,000th patient to receive care at the clinic was Wanda K. King of Utica. We were very proud to achieve this milestone as we prepare to celebrate our 10-year anniversary.”
King was given a celebratory gift provided by Crest and Oral B by her student-hygienist, Felicity P. Runge of Carthage.
The clinic, which is operated at the VA Outpatient Medical Facility in Rome, N.Y., celebrated its grand opening in 2006 and its first class of students graduated in 2008.
The Dental Hygiene program has received multiple awards for service within the Rome community, including the prestigious American Dental Hygienists Association Student Member Community Service Award and a $5,000 grant from the Wrigley Company Foundation to offer children preventative dental services.
SUNY Canton students provide care for children (age 5 and older) and adults. Services include screening exams, cavity checks, periodontal screenings and cleanings, exposure of x-rays, application of fluoride, and placement of sealants. Services are offered for qualifying patients at a discounted fee of $10.00 for children and $15.00 for adults. Veterans receive care free of charge. To make an appointment, please call the clinic at 315-336-3484.
